Importance of MISWAK in HADITHS
  • Prophet (PHUB) said :  'Make a regular practice of the Miswaak, for verily, it is healthy for the mouth and it is a Pleasure for the Creator (i.e. Allah is pleased with the Muslim who uses the Miswaak)'."
  • Prophet (PHUB) said : 'Was it not for my fear of imposing a difficulty on my Ummah I would have ordered that the Miswaak be used for every Salaat'."
  • Prophet  (PHUB) said : One who uses miswak before wudu and then prays two rakats of namaz ,they are equal to 70 namazs (Majmud Zavied)
 

Scientific significance of miswak
The Wrigley Company made a study on Miswak which was published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. The study found that mints laced with Miswak extract were 20 times more effective in killing bacteria than ordinary mints.

A study which compares toothbrushing and using Miswak (Miswak ing!) can be seen on Pubmed (U.S National Library for Medicine Service). The study concluded that Miswak was more effective than tooth brushing in reducing plaque and gingivitis provided it was used correctly.

It is forbidden to use a Miswaak from a poisonous tree. Miswaaks from the following trees are not permissible:

  • Pomegranate
  • Bamboo
  • Raihaan
  • Chambelie
